TWITTER PROMISE

I've stopped Twittering, as perhaps you've noticed.  Some fans are disappointed, but most people who know me and care about me are relieved.  Very relieved.  So, I deactivated my account, then I logged on to open an anonymous account and realized that by logging on, I reactivated my account.  So SUTTERINK is there, it's just dormant.

Which is kinda prophetic.  You know?

I'm getting many requests to rejoin Twitter.  People are calling me a quitter and a coward.  I just heard that Damon Lindelof, Brent Lang and Ryan Murphy want me back on.  But here's the curious thing.  My Twitter account has gotten a lot of buzz over the past few months and yet the amount of my followers basically stays the same.  You'd think my numbers would be blowing up.  But they don't.  Meaning that all the hype is kinda bullshit.  Maybe here in LA it's buzzy, but to the rest of the world, no one gives a shit about a television writer.  All they care about is the writer's work.  This is a double edged sword for me.  Part of me is relieved to know that most people don't pay attention to the ridiculous coverage and judge me by my talent.  Then a part of me, let's call it my big ego, is pissed off that people don't pay attention to the ridiculous coverage.  C'mon, man.  I'm being smeared in tiger blood here, where are my numbers?

So here's the deal, at the rate of my added followers, I should hit the QUARTER MILLION mark in 2027.  That's when I'll re-engage Twitter, 250,000 followers or 2027, whichever comes first.  Either way, by then I'll be retired and won't give a shit.  I'll be tweeting about colostomy bags and weed killer.  So until then, the little bird on my computer remains silent.  And the rest of the world could care less.

Adieu, ladies.

I loved you on twitter and would love to have you back. Let's face it though, I don't care if you are there or not as long as you keep writing the best show on TV! I hae a work function on the evening of the 13th of September and am seriously thinking of "getting sick" so I can stay home and watch that night's episode. Everyone at work watches too so I am not sure that will work! ;)

Personally I would rather read your blogs, that is where the writer in you comes out and your talent for it....your Tweets were amusing at best and of course informative (why I opened an account and followed you) but the fan in me finds it much more rewarding now that you are not limited in your thoughts....Twitter was holding you back from all your talents and I for one appreciate you not having to restrain or shorten what you are thinking! Keep on writing, got mad love for you and your talents!

Blogging is better! Keep it up! We are all still here reading...and Twitter is for the birds :)

Can't wait for the premiere!

I'm glad. I like your blog and you neglected it because of Twitter. Bloggers tend to think a little more before they post. We all have stray thoughts which are better left in the vault but with Twitter they tend to sneak out more frequently. This is probably why some people like it, because it catches folks with their mental pants down.

I don't think its so much that they don't "care" about the writer as much as it's about twitter. Your current show is loosely based on the 1% lifestyle. The majority people that are on twitter that are into the show are more of the trend/bandwagon people. The majority of your audience is the type who doesn't "tweet" or care for twitter. So, I wouldn't base the amount of people that like you based on the amount of people who follow you on twitter.

Regards,
Andrew

I miss reading your tweets. I love reading your blog though so it's all good. I can't wait for s4 of SOA. I'm going to be on vacation when it premieres but my fiance and I have already informed the people we're going with that we have to be back in the hotel in time to watch.

F#*k that means I have to quit smoking now if I want to live to 2027 to read your tweets. Thanks for saving my life and killing me at the same time!

I think you mean "couldn't care less". Sorry for the angry comment I am just lashing out on you for leaving twitter. Like an angry child who doesn't understand his parents' decisions.

I will take you anyway I can get you. Katey is blessed to have you. YOU are so blessed to have you,you just don't know it yet. You are a compassionate human/spiritual being. Thanks for a fun show!

I think of tweets as short quips from twits - which is not you or your style. I think your blog is awesome and I so appreciate your honesty. I especially liked the post on your daughter and going back to therapy. I wish you the best as you grow as a father and hope you can put some of those old childhood demons to rest. I know from experience it's not easy to do.

I will take your opinion anyway I can get it. Katey is blessed to have you. YOU are blessed to have you,you just don't know it yet. You are the best kind of human/spiritual being there is. Thanks for such a fun show(and all your silly dysfunction,we all have some).

I will miss your Twitter posts! In 2027 I will be 66 years and still telling the world exactly what I think! You know what they say "Catholic girls start much to late" I started running my mouth when I was 14 and have the intention of never stopping. You are my hero!

I for one am up for the challenge! If ur number is 250,000 I'm gonna do everything I can to get u there cause twitterverse ain't the same without u! There are plenty of fan groups that are also up for this challenge, let's see how long it takes I'm sure it will be well before 2027!

I only joined twitter so I could follow you. (my brother mentioned your feed as a way to stay plugged into SOA)

After a few tweets, I started looking forward to what you would say next. Your sense of humor is great!!

The blog is better for everyone though. Keep writing, and I'll keep reading. Weather it's SOA updates or personal thoughts.

Hey Kurt;
It was great seeing you and the family Sat., When I said congrats on leaving twitter, I meant it most sincerely. I don't tweet. I am 56 and could care less about it. I love this much more. I get a notification on my yahoo homepage, I get to read more about what you are trying to convey, and it seems since you left tweeter you are posting here sometimes 2 times a day, which is awesome. Again you have left the word cunt out of this post, which I really wish you could work in somehow. Maybe the part where you said,"People are calling me a quitter and a coward." An easy add would be "Fuck those cunts!" I'm just sayin'.

I think you are correct that most of your fans couldn't care less - as long as you keep engaging us in some format. I prefer this and the video blog anyway... since you tend to be rather long-winded and Twitter is not the best format for that.

Personally, I would love to see you take a break from TV (AFTER the final season of SOA - may it be many years in the future) and write a book or three.

Unknown said...

Yup, I was one of those disappointed that you left twitter, as your tweets entertained and enlightened and challenged. But, I also respected why. Hell, your WTF#15 made me cry. That's hard to do, buster. I don't LIKE to cry like a female (even though I am one).

Those that call you a quitter and a coward have no clue and don't give a rat's behind about you anyway. They might not even know just how talented y'all are.

Hate to burst your bubble, darlin', but those of us who reside outside of lalaland dp care about your battles, but we felt that if we gave attention to those asshats, it would just encourage them to dip their little quills into the poison ink and beat you up some more. We felt they didn't deserve the attention.

As for you not havin' nearly a quarter million followers, well, not everyone twitters.

So keep bloggin' away, darlin', and keep runnin' that wonderful show I watch and watch and watch, much to the DH's dismay.

So long as you concentrate on making Sons of Anarchy the best show possible, i don't care whether you're tweeting/blogging or not.
The show's the thing.
BUT,to be honest, since you've stopped tweeting you've been blogging much more & your blog-posts are much more engaging and insightful. As far as i'm concerned, the less tweets the better...

Hi,
I really enjoy SOA as well as the WTF Sutter posts. I wasn't sure where you get your questions to answer so I'll ask it here.
If Piney is an original nine why does he have a denim cut and not a leather one?
Can't wait for season 4

I see your stuff on FB. I'm being a stubborn pain in the ass and refuse to Tweet. You do what's best for you and your real fans will still be here.

I caught up with u on blogspot - obvious - and can appreciate your reasoning behind shooting the bird.

New season promos for SOA have real HOOKS in them - thx for that!

The countdown is on; so looking forward to Season 4 - line of post-its that I have to move from front of BIG screen, keep it in my forebrain.

PS Let Katey know - pls - that I dig her since the PB years, the CSI epi was a HOOT!

Do what you have to do, brother, to keep it all together - we're your fans, and we'll find you on the 'net :)

Dude, I haven't logged on to twitter once since you left. I'm missing you and the many giggles you added to my day. As for your number of followers? The hardcore fans loved thinking of you as their dirty little secret. Maybe the fact that tons of people didn't start following you means that the tabloid crap wasn't the big drama you thought it was. Don't disappoint your many fans over a couple of (say it with me) cunts!

well, it's super that I can read more than 140 characters, so, who cares about twitter? but, remember dear Mr. that a huge ego can kill... it killed Napoleon, Che, Athilla... kill your ego before it kills you.

I am a huge soa fan and as soon as I joined twitter I searched to find you because I think you and the rest of the cast are awesome people! You have an amazing ability to say it how it is and you don't care what other people think and that is a quality I admire in a person! I was only using twitter for a short time when you decided to leave and I'm gutted!

I will be asking all my twitter friends to start following you too so that I help the world take a step closer to having kurt sutter back!

Old Uncle Dave said...

Twitter is contributing to the shortening of people's attention spans. It was a good move to flee before you unconsciously started writing dialog containing no lines over 140 characters.

Mr. Sutter,
You were one of the few people I follow on Twitter. And you were the most interesting. If you wish to write on your blog instead, I really don't care. (As long as you also keep up the best show on TV!)

I really do like to hear your thoughts and ramblings about the entertainment industry and running a show.

All my friends already follow you, so I can't get you more supporters. Maybe people on twitter have already figured out if they prefer you or [insert generic teen show here].

You're brilliant and I will support whatever you choose.

Hi I am big Fan of SOA. I live in the UK and I am aware of all the hype thats gone on. I think its a shame you quit twitter and I stopped following you when I found you had stopped using your account. I am following your blog though and wish you well YOU ROCK!

Unknown said...

Over-thinking it kills it. When you were having fun with it, it was great. Once it become a duty, it sucks. Trust me I know.

When you have a social media audience, it can be daunting - you have to choose what you listen to and what you don't. Your megaphone may be louder, but so is your audience's.

You'll come back -- trust me. ;)

Kurt,
I am going to do my best as a Twitter Partner to get you back on and to that mark. As a Twitter Partner who pays for promoted tweets and trends, the crew and myself are organizing as we speak a promotion for Twitter for Season 4 and your return at the end of the month.

We want sutter back and are working to that effect. I love your work personally and am willing to help any way I can with my account bro.

Hope to see you back soon.

@Chopper_Boy on Twitter.

Hey Kurt,
I just wanted you to know that I support your decision (to stop tweeting) I will continue to follow you on WTF Sutter and read your blog. I think that the media draws focus away from your talent with their non-sense. I first heard about you through S.O.A. but sense then have watched the shield. Your talent for creating, writing, producing and acting has changed the way I watch T.V.
Thank you so much for creating riveting and edgy programing.

Much love to you and your family

The only people I followed on Twitter were you and the Pope. The words (sometimes maybe the worst?) of Kurt Sutter combined with the angelic rhetoric of the Pontif made for an interesting and entertaining twitter feed! It's ok, I like reading more than 140 characters from the Great Character (that would be YOU). I'm so excited for season 4, bring on the SOA goodness!!!!

"Maybe here in LA it's buzzy, but to the rest of the world, no one gives a shit about a television writer."

Dear Kurt; I just read your post out here in middle America (far from Hollywood). I may be the only one to think this, or maybe I'm one of thousands, but of all the television writers in the world, you're the one I DO give a shit about, because you're entertaining, and maybe my appreciation counts just a wee little bit?

Be it Twitter, Facebook, the blog, or a new SOA episode, I like reading your stuff, and I do read the press, but if for no other reason than to laugh over the "shortcut to thinking" approach the media applies manufacture a story out of their Sutter coverage.

Kurt,

F*ck Twitter.

Keep the Blog. Your thoughts and opinions are revered by your fans, regardless of the social media outlet.

Your creativity and intensity with SOA captivates me. The Sun Kil Moon music montage in Season 3 is genius and one of my favorite moments. Can't wait for Sept 6.

Thanks.

@sutterink that should look familiar. I've spen 3 seasons pimping the shit out of you & #SonsofAnarchy. I just have to ask, when you were considering the bottom feeding media hacks trolling for crumbs did you happen to think or realize that anything you tweet is plastered all over the internet by fans just like me and the nenarly 50k fanatics that hang on your every word. a small quote from my blog:
"99.9% of the fellow #SAMCRO fans that I have tweeted with are great people (in my book) and Kurt Sutter really is a nice guy, despite his colorful expressions wrapped in profanity and deep fried in vulgarity."
So if we your loyal fans are dramatizing your tweets way before those bottom feeding so called journalists, then are we really the cause of this mess? the media might never have noticed some of your tweets if not for posting on fb pages like CNN, FX and a whole slew of other outlets that the media wallow through to dredge up crumbs from the sludge at the bottom of the muddy information river called the internet?
#SAMCRO Fans take this shit seriously. perhaps to an unhealthy extreme, but what, like we are going to live forever? I waited quite some time before being able to collect my thoughts and get beyond my own anti-social disorder to assemble some semi-coherent comments for you to read. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing you for what you felt you had to do. Just remember we #SACMRO fans, being the greater part of the ferment(Jack London's The Sea Wolf reference) spread your tweets around the world in micro-seconds where as the lesser part of the ferment may take hours or even days to find a bit to use, except for the tidbits that we incidentally roll into their tunnel visioned path. All #twitter #hashtags are intentional.
@sutterink is still and industry icon and deserving of more respect than he has been given by the media, his fellow colleagues and especially the the lame award committees.

You will be sorely missed on #twitter

times like this "Twisted Shadow" makes for a really good screen name. but I don't hide behind it.
Kurt, as a fan I love and admire your work. So long as you keep producing that adrenaline infused emotional rollercoaster ride that is the #SonsofAnarchy I'll still be watching and #tweeting from @Twisted_Shadow and occasionally my blog.

Remember 2 hours on the Bike is like 6 months worth of therapy.

Peace
