ADDITIONAL CONTENT SCENES

As we gear up the release of these MC appetizers, I just wanted to give you some more information as to what they are and how it will all work.  The biggest gripe I get from fans is the fact that we only do 13 episodes and that you have to wait so long between seasons.  I will point out that we pack more story and chaos into 13 episodes than most shows do in 24.  That being said, I understand the frustration with the long down time.  I hate waiting for my favorite shows to come back on the air. Right now I'm already lamenting the fact that Louie is almost halfway through his season.  Man, I fucking love that show.

We played with the ideas of doing mini-episodes or webisodes to bridge the gap, but we could never come up with an efficient production model.  Pulling in cast and crew off season is incredibly difficult and expensive.  So I thought what if we did the opposite of "deleted scenes" - scenes that were shot and produced during the regular season, but didn't fit into a cut because of time.  Meaning, we'd shoot and produce scenes within the framework of the season, but release them before the season aired rather than after.

With most of the club in prison for 14 months, there was an opportunity to share some story about what happened while they were in Stockton.  We looked at the arc of the season and asked ourselves what scenes would be cool to show the audience.  Which moments have the most emotional and narrative punch?  So we wrote four scenes and built them into the schedule of the first two episodes.  Three of these scenes will preview before the premier, one will be exclusive to the season 3 DVD.  We will be releasing the additional content first on the SOA iPhone and Android app, then after a set period of time (still not sure how long) it will be uploaded to the FX website and hopefully this blog and YouTube.  If you purchased the app already, you'll get a free update that will allow you to stream video.  If you haven't purchased the app, it'll be $.99.  Obviously this is the first time we're doing one for Android so that will need to be purchased.  We are charging a buck quite honestly to help us defer costs.  This is all sort of an experiment and FX and Fox Mobile have been supportive but we're still doing it on a shoestring.  DEFY and my post producer, Craig Yahata have been a godsend in making this all happen.

Both the Android app and updated iPhone app will be available when the first additional content scene is released next week.  The first scene is called PAYPHONE.  Directed by our own, Ryan Hurst.  It's a simple minute and change scene, but it sets sets up a lot of Jax's emotional and plot points for the new season.  I think you'll dig it.

If people bitch about a measly .99 than they don't deserve to see the extra content! .99 is like going to a fast food chain an getting something from the dollar menu. I for one am very excited to see this I love SOA I have made 2 pages and one group for it on Facebook :)

You're right, Mr. Sutter. The wait between Seasons for SOA is a pain in the ass, but it's a sweet pain, because all y'all make the wait worth while.

Frankly, I'd rather have 13 weeks of awesome leading to another season than 26 weeks of 'meh' laeding to cancellation.

So, yes, I wait for September, as previously noted, as gleefully and with as much anticipation as the child I was waited for both birthday and Christmas.

You are the reason I upgraded last year to an Iphone. Granted, it's a 3g version, and it was a refurb (that was to placate the DH ). The first download I purchased was the SOA app (Note, I said purchased).

Last year, the SOA app didn't fail me. I heard rumblings/grumblings about it givin' people trouble. Not me. In fact, I gave it a damn good ratin'. The apps were excellently made, with great detail and lots of shit packed into it.

Hell, for .99 cents, a body gets a hell of a lot. Like gettin' a hamburger off the dollar menu and havin' somebody give you a loaded Whopper at the same price. Frankly, y'all could've asked as much as some of the games are goin' for in the app store, and the fans would've paid it (at least I would've) and felt it was worth the money.

Anyone pitchin' a bitch about the cost of the SOA app is just complainin' to hear their own voice. The whankers.

Ryan Hurst is gonna direct an appisode? That's awesome! If you've never seen his Pirate! Ninja! Adventure!, you should.

Hope y'all had a great time at ComicCon. I submitted questions to TV Fanatic to be asked, but guess they never got time to ask 'em. None of those questions involved Charlie's hair.

In fact, I didn't even ask a Tig question.

Yeah, I was under the weather.

Roll on, man, to September we go.
And thanks for goin' the extra mile for the fans. Shaved bunny and all.

I only got turned on to SOA this summer (been catching up with DVD's) and I LOVE SOA!! Can't wait to see Season 3 when it's out, then be ready for 4! I was an Emmy member for years, let my membership lapse, but I will now renew it to make sure I can use my vote to nominate the entire SOA cast!!! (+ David Simon).

It's not the 99 cents I mind, it's the $300 phone. Sux for those of us who are the "have nots."

I hope we get something about when Tara was pregnant and/or Jax/Tara content since Jax (and viewers) missed so much.

Like I've always said.. You're a friggin Creative Genius! And once again you've brought more sunshine into my otherwise gloomy, off-season days! Thank you a billion times over!

Im thrilled to see the Android App..shhh..I'd pay more than the pissy .99 ( just noticed there's no "cent" key on my keyboard) Buzzkill. anywhoooo..Love the show, hate the down time, respect the fuck outta the fact that you write ur balls off during our "down time". I notice a LOT of the "citizen" types find this a romanticized way of life (all the killing included)Girls swoon over the cast (some pissy cuz Mr. Hunnam hacked his hair) But I have to say..If Sonny Barger himself graced SOA with his presence, you know its dead on.This is one show I will miss when that time comes, I only ask one thing..don't pull a Soprano's ending on us ;) (loving the fact that the word verification is CHILL) my sign in is razormuse. my name is Cine (seen). Peace.

Hey Kurt!! I just wanted to say that I'm so dissapointed about the emmys, your post here about the situation was very sincere and honest but still rough you know? (I'm from Brazil, so if I write anything wrong I'm sorry already)I'm such a huge fan of the show, it's so so so good!I first started to watch like in 2 months ago, and I watched all the episodes of the 3 seasons in two weeks (freak). Just wanted you to know that I live in Brazil and your show captivates different languages and different cultures and the good stuff is good anywhere! Your show is f*cking amazing and very original. I still can believe in that last episode of season 3, you should win an academy award! Take my words in consideration because I never did this before (write a lot of good stuff to an unknow person) and the show kept me so much captivated. I'm a girl (can I say my gender here? all of this warnings before about the post that I'm afraid of wtiting something that you don't allow here)and I'm not exactly a fan of motos or anything like that, but I just felt in love with the sons. I'm very happy about the app news and anxious for season 4. Keep on the good work!!!

Ps: this post is so glee!

Kurt, you and I were cut from the same cloth, you sick fuck. "Louie" is one of my -hands down- favorite shows! Along with a few other sick shows that stir my natural primal conflicts of my pathetic, man vs whatever which may or may not get me off, Louie keeps me happy and grounded to what is good and real in life! When I saw the "Pregnant" episode of Louie CK, I had never laughed so hard in my craggy excuse of a life. In my everyday cynical perspectives, I am usually the asshole who laughs at the suited assholes slipping and falling on wet concrete who probably deserved it. I have laughed at little old ladies slapping young thugged-out gangstas with umbrellas, etc... but when I saw that Louie episode named,"Pregnant", I laughed harder than I ever thought my body was capable of laughing. It actually physically hurt to laugh that hard and tears of lung pain were streaming down my normally smooth faced badly creased with the crows of tomorrow. In fact, I am pretty sure that I coughed up a chunk of asbestos that i must have inhaled 20 or so years ago when i was working on my uncle's building renovating it for new tenants. Louie is the best new 39 minutes of comedy out there! There, I said it. Thanks for saving me from asbestiosis Louie CK.

Love the show. Bobby reminds me dead-on of a member of the Iron Horsemen I knew a while back.

If you're looking for some music for the show (dunno how those deals are done), A Pale Horse Named Death (Sal Abruscato's project) has a cool song called "Die Alone" that might fit the mood of the show somewhere. Sal Abruscato was a member of Type O Negative in their heyday, but put together a solo project that comes off like a cross of Type O and Alice in Chains, good stuff, slower and heavy.

I am a late comer to the show but I have to admit I am surprised that the show got emmy pissed on. I think season 3 was a killer as it gave us alot more to sink our teeth into regarding each character. Sorry you all got the snub but I will do my part to get everyone I know to tune into the show. Thanks for the great work.

Look Sutter, we are your peeps and we are waiting for your show. I know we are not some big S-@ssed TV execs, but some of us are big S-@ssed execs in our own careers, and we do matter. On a very real level we are the most important component because if you didn't have us, your adoring waiting audience, then you would just have one of those brilliant shows playing to no one. So don't let these idiots get you down. We'll send you the only trophy that really matters--Our Undying Loyalty and Viewership. Just get on with the show. It is The Most Satisfying 13 weeks of Art on television.
Love, Tess

Hey Kurt,

I'm at uni at the moment and we have the BEST assignment ever - creating a Transmedia Campaign Brief for the SONS to maintain user engagement between series.

It's going to be friggin' cool (and we'll let you know when we're done) but just wondering if you could point us in the direction of some exterior stills of Teller Morrow Auto Shop?

Is there any bonus content from Seasons 1 or 2? Scrolling over, it seems the material starts with Season 3. Either way, keep up the amazing work. It's hands down the best show on TV.
