FOREVER SAM CROW

FX greenlit my pilot this week. It's my hope to blog the experience -- from pre-production through post. The script is currently out to agents and we hope to lock down a director in the next week. From there, we'll have a sense of timing and the rest will follow accordingly. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117973752.html?categoryid=14&cs=1

  1. What's your feeling about HBO's 1%? Has that influenced your script?

  2. Congratulations on the deal. FX has a very strong track record of programming. I will certainly be tuning in. Your work on the Shield is just fantastic.

  3. I feel the information that Variety published at least told the truth about how and why HBO created their own biker show. Beyond that, all I can do is show up and make the best pilot I can. If both biker shows go to series, scheduling will be the network's challenge.

  6. Kurt great show congrats! Quick question - to what does "Sam Crow" refer? Is it a catch-all term for motorcycle groups in the U.S.?

Thanks, and again congrats on a really intense show.

  8. i'll give the pilot an ok.some problems i see.number 1 when riding a bike your smoke doesnt stand streight out from your face and if it does you will get burnt.one ember in your eye and you'll know what i mean.number 2 california bikers would be tan and have a lot more road dust on them(hot in cali make you sweat more dirt sticks to you).its hard to imagine a true to life biker show as its a special lifestyle and would never make it past the censors.ride hard die free.

  9. We've been watching the show and find it good TV. I was wondering if there was any connection between your pilot and the investigation centered in Modesto - bike shop owner, cops, and others arrested. The timeline seems tight but it seems more than coincidental.

  10. Thanks so much for the concept and congratulation on your project getting legs. It is a pleasure to usher in and review and will have a proud place on my television review mantle after The Shield completes its run.

    Cheers!

  14. Don't blow it and let them turn it into a cheesy soap opera. Stick to your political signifigance behind the show.

  17. I love(d) The Shield and I've really gotten into Sons of Anarchy. I like the eps that are more heavy on the MC aspect; with the first ep I got a little too much Sopranos similarity (dinner table scene etc) but when it goes MC heavy it's really, really good.

  18. I love love love the show - hands down my favorite of the Fall season. Congratulations to you. I'll echo the previous question though - I'm having a hard time understanding just what the term Sam Crow means.

  19. I love this show, but don't know what Sam Crow means either. The thing is I saw it on a van here advertising a rap artist? anybody know?

  20. Ah ha! I finally got it! It's an anagram for "The Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original (Samcro)"

    ReplyDelete
  21. To the people saying "Samcro" is an anagram, I think you mean acronym. An anagram is when you take a sentence or a name or any group of words and rearrange the letters to make new words.

Love the show, I'm surprised to see how much is getting past the censors.

  22. Doh! I stand corrected - Justin, you're 100% correct. I should have said acronym.

  23. "The Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original (Samcro)" = Sam Crow

  24. Ok, I love the show. Me and My fiance' watch it every week. But one question still remains. What happened to the W on the end of Sam Cro? In the 1st episode when Jaxs finds his dads stuff. In the journal it reads "the life and death of Sam Crow" with the W. But if you look anywhere else in the show. The W is gone. Its not on their jackests. The w is gone...WHAT HAPPENED TO IT?!?! AND WHAT DID IT STAND FOR?

  25. People ! Its not that hard to figure out! really! Sam Crow is a term for out law MC's and to capitalize on this they came up with SAM CRO sons of anarchy redwood original! In the book the dad is writing its the outlaw term and all others its the term for the moto club. It's a term that is used that the producers thought would be great if they used it as a anagram! I know I am stupid but I could figure that out. PS I know I cant spell or type.

  26. Dang. Why can't I post?

The show is great. The characters are perfect. Raw. Real. Not melodramatic. The guys I used to know.

The writing makes the show. Tension and reality combined. Keep up the good work. Use Opie. He's brilliant! A real diamond.

Sorry about The Shield ending. It could last forever and I would buy it on iTunes.

  27. IMO, When Jax is reading his dad's writings which is entitled "Sam Crow" if you listen to the way his dad writes about the club he writes about it as if it was a person. I was very confused at first as to who Jax's father was because of the way his dad wrote. I thought his dad's name was Sam Crow. It finally dawned on me that his dad talks about the club like this because it was a brotherhood and they functioned as one unit. So he expanded the acronym with the W to create a "real" last name.

  28. any way of seeing the original pilot with scott glen?

  29. From google:
The full name of the motorcycle club is Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original; on occasion, the show will abbreviate it as SOA, though more frequently the club is referred to as SAMCRO (a rough acronym of The Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original [1]) or "Sam Crow." This nickname is also reflected in the original title of the show, Forever Sam Crow.[2]

  30. They`ve just started showing SOA here in Australia. Great show. Hope it doesnt go soft like some. Seem as good as Deawood so far. What a bitch Katie Segal plays. I love her charactor. Know quite a few like her.
Was also interested to find out what SAMCRO was. Never figured the anagram angle.

  31. 1st of all I just want to say that I just LOVE LOVE this show. The actors that play the characters are great. I can't see anyone else playing Jax or Gemma! They story lines leave u wanting more. I'm an addict now waiting on my next fix, especially when it shows the preview for the next week.I love FX!!! SOA, NIP TUCK,ETC.They are more realistic! Thanks for the show and keep it coming. OH by the way I feel like an idiot but what does Redwood Original stand for in SAMCRO.Is that something to do with the area in Cali?

  32. Kurt just read your blur about the context of which some one can post.

I am sure you get a million and one asks about jobs and so on daily. I am not looking for work and what you do,much as i love it is not my field. What i was offering as a Irish man some help with the whole Irish angle you have going on in the show,to help make it a bit more realistic. That and some help with Accents. All of the ACTORS in Season 2 that did the Irish accent went from bad to brutal. The wife off Jimmy O and Jimmy O. Man they were so bad it was pain full to watch and listen to. I know that anyone from Europe that watchs it will have some serious issue's with those accents. Plus anyway the whole arms thing and the IRA is so off the charts is mess's up the plot lines IMO. If you want us to buy into the show and we do as a audience than i Know that Yes some Most of the USA would nopt Know the IRA is now a political Party repesented by Sinn Fein and the IRA is over. What is in its place is factions and so on. What i offered is my Familly were involved in all of it from the actual crimes to the end process. So i rekon could at the very least give you enough information to make changes in that area that make the story more up to date and believable.

I have no other way to contact you so i threw it out here. If i did some thing wrong it was not My intent to offend,i just love the show and thought i could help. I am sure you also get that daily.

    Anyway regardless great work!!
